C indy has fulfilled a number of roles since getting involved with Habitat in 1984, which is when she and her husband, Doug, attended the very first gathering for those interested in starting a Habitat affiliate in Lafayette. The founder of Habitat for Humanity, Millard Fuller, shared his vision that all of God’s children should have a decent place to live. Cindy says, “We were hooked and started the journey to eliminate substandard housing in Lafayette.”

Cindy served as a dedicated volunteer for 22 years and joined our staff in 2006. While she now serves as our Director of Development, Cindy has also served as our Volunteer Coordinator and Director of Family Services. Today, her role includes securing the resources we need to keep our affiliation going strong.

Cindy enjoys connecting with partner families and staying in touch after partner families become homeowners. Cindy says, “I fully embrace the fact that Habitat is about development, rather than relief. The product that is produced (a house), helps provide long-term stability for children and provides an avenue for the homeowners to build equity for future needs. A great deal of education (financial planning, maintenance, etc.) takes place, which families can put into practice for the rest of their lives.”

I fully embrace the fact that Habitat is about development, rather than relief.”
