Meagan with Sons Amari and Kian

“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.”

Psalm 127:1

M eagan Thomas lives in a house in Lafayette with her sons Amari and Kian; they will welcome a new baby to their family in February. The brothers are good buddies and both have a passion for football and enjoy school. Amari is eight and in second grade at Dayton Elementary School, where he reads chapter books and practices his multiplication tables. Kian is in first grade at Dayton and likes to read and play catch with his older brother. Both boys also like their mom’s macaroni and cheese. Meagan glows with maternal pride as she watches her boys play and communicate.

Meagan has a strong support system in her mother, younger sisters, brother, and dear friend, Dee Dee. Meagan and Dee Dee have been friends since fourth grade and still hang out together. Meagan graduated from Jefferson High School and then went on to work on an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Ivy Tech Community College. For the last three years, she has managed a tanning salon in Lafayette. She enjoys her current managerial position, but her long-range plans include finishing her Ivy Tech degree and pursuing a career within the juvenile probation system. One of her more immediate goals is to provide a stable home for her children and work toward her Habitat home. On her days off, Meagan has started accumulating her sweat equity and class hours for Habitat. With the support of their family and friends, Meagan, Amari and Kian have extremely high prospects for success in achieving their goals.
